Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Python)

GovTech company, United States · remote

  • Sole engineer designing and operating web scraping systems that process millions of pages a day, including Airbnb, VRBO and Booking, for a compliance product used by US state and local agencies.
  • Designed the ingestion and normalisation pipelines for an internal AI assistant, using tool-based and agent-to-agent orchestration patterns.
  • Architected the background job and queue systems that carry high-concurrency workloads across several scraping pipelines, with retry logic, failure handling and observability.
  • Company-wide subject-matter expert for crawling and browser automation, working with Data Science, Product, QA and Support.

Technical Solutions Engineer

Web hosting provider, United States · contract

  • L2 support for VPS, VDS, dedicated and GPU servers: Linux, networking and virtualisation issues.
  • Pre-sales and solution design, turning customer requirements into server configurations and deployments.
  • Worked directly with the CEO on hardware selection, virtualisation strategy and transit decisions, and evaluated new datacenter locations and transit providers.
  • Built internal Python automation, including a billing-to-operations integration that cut order-to-provisioning time by about half.

Senior DevOps Engineer, Backend

  • Ran the backend for two music-learning apps, supporting feature work and platform reliability.
  • Designed and deployed serverless APIs on AWS Lambda and API Gateway, in Python.
  • Operated and scaled infrastructure across EC2, RDS, DynamoDB and Neo4j.
